How do Plumbers find clients?
Once upon a time, if you needed a plumber, you went to the Yellow Pages book (or local paper) and looked up the plumbing section for a list of plumbers. You then randomly chose a plumber depending on whether you liked their advert, or maybe they had an address close by. In some cases, you may have seen or heard an advert on the local radio, TV, bus or vehicle, but this only worked if you were currently looking for a plumber when you saw or heard these ads.
What about finding a plumber that you thought you could trust?
In this case, the only real way to find a reliable plumber with a good reputation, was to ask your friends and family for a recommendation.
With the creation of the internet, this has all changed. The Yellow Pages book no longer exists, and you’d even struggle to find a local paper with a trade's directory in it. So, how are people finding plumbers in the age of the internet?
You guessed it (or you read the introductory paragraph). When someone needs a plumber, they generally go to Google and do a search in their local area. In other words, they Google “plumber brisbane” or “plumber bondi”; you get the idea. As a general rule, people search for the service they are looking for, followed by the area they need them.
Of course, there are other ways that people find plumbers (social media, ads, signage, referrals etc), but the majority of them will use Google to find a plumber for the first time.
How does SEO for Plumbers work?
- Plumber search engine optimisation starts with keyword research. Doing comprehensive keyword research allows you to build a list of all the keywords people use to find the plumber services you offer.
This is where SEO experts work out the intent of each keyword and prioritise the ones with good intent. - An optimised website is built using good site structure and technical SEO.
- Conversion tracking set up for phone calls, webforms (and chat if used). After all, if you don’t measure it, you can’t improve it.
- SEO content is created to target the identified keywords. This is an ongoing process, as good keyword research will uncover literally thousands of plumbing keywords to target.
- Build out online profiles, including Google Business Profile.
- Set up a process to get customer reviews and show these on your website.
- Regularly audit, review and improve your website.
Sounds easy, doesn’t it? But don’t let that fool you, not only do you need the tools to access and track the data you need, but more importantly, you need to know what plumber SEO strategies work.
Can I do Plumbing SEO on my own?
One of our favourite quotes, at Probity Web Marketing, is that “what we do isn’t rocket science”. After all, our main SEO strategy, is to research and find the search terms we want to target and then write content to target these. If you were to do nothing more than that, you would be able to get your website indexed for these keywords and, if written well, get them ranking on page 1 (or maybe 2).
However, before you decide that you should do your own plumbing SEO instead of hiring an agency, ask yourself these questions:
- Is your time better spent running your plumbing business instead of working at plumbing SEO?
- Who are you going to use to build your website to ensure it is technically correct and well-structured to assist your plumbing SEO efforts?
- What tools will you use to track and audit your website, and how much will these cost?
- Is the way you create your content using proven strategies to give you the best chance to rank page 1?
- Do you know which search terms you should target, and which convert the best?
We can go on, but you get the idea. Yes, you could do the SEO for your plumbing business, but you won’t get the same results as an SEO agency that specialises in this and is continually expanding their knowledge, skills and strategies. Plus, if you’re serious about growing your plumbing business, your time is much better spent on running the business and delivering the best services you can.
SEO for Plumbers: Why we’re the plumbing marketing agency for you
So you’ve decided that you need plumber SEO services to grow your business, but why should you choose us as your SEO agency?
Firstly, Probity Web Marketing are SEO specialists, and have been providing SEO services to plumbers since 2007. During that time, we have continually reviewed and improved our SEO strategies so that we have a full set of proven SEO strategies that we know work for plumbers. We know the best site structure for an optimised plumber website to start with. We know which keywords will convert the best, so we don’t chase poor converting keywords. Furthermore, we know how to develop the content to build an authority site in Google that will target the full sales funnel.
Secondly, we focus on conversions. Many SEO agencies will talk about improving your keyword rankings and growing traffic to your website; but these don’t necessarily lead to more conversions. When you talk to us, we’ll talk about growing your conversions. By conversions, we mean phone calls, webforms and chats. Rankings and traffic are simply a means to an end. In fact, when you work with us, the first page of your monthly report shows exactly how many leads your website generated and what it cost per lead.
Thirdly, we value long term relationships with our clients. We know that the only way we will keep clients with us (especially as we don’t lock them into contracts), is to deliver the results we say we will (leads and sales). On average, our plumber clients have been using us for their plumbing SEO services for over 6 years.
