What is Outbound Marketing?
Outbound Marketing is best known as Interruption Marketing. This is because the aim is to interrupt people and try to get their attention so that you can sell your product or service to them. The best example of this would be televisioon ads; whereby the Marketer is hoping to attract your attention whilst you are watching your favourite show to tell you why you should buy their product or service.
Outbound Marketing Examples
Some of the common Outbound (Interruption) Marketing strategies are:
- Television and Radio Advertising
- Magazine and Newspapers Adverts
- Online Banner Ads (Or Display Advertising)
- Direct Mail
- Emailing people from purchased email lists
- Cold Calling
Does Outbound Marketing work?
In short, YES. It wouldn't have been around for as long as it has if it didn't work. Whilst we specialise in Inbound Marketing and believe it is the best marketing strategy for small business, we appreciate that sometimes Outbound Marketing has its' place.
So when should you consider Outbound Marketing?
We believe there are 2 main times that you should consider Interruption Marketing in Small Business.
-
When your Product or Service is not widely known
If people don't know that your product or service exists, they will hardly go looking for it allowing you to use Inbound Marketing strategies to attract them. A good example here would be someone like a Phone or Electricity Broker etc. -
To help broaden your market
Whilst you may have a successful Inbound Marketing strategy in place, there will still be people out there who may be interested in what you have but haven't really given it a thought, so haven't gone looking.
A great example of how Inbound and Outbound works well together is one of our Kitchen Renovations companies. Whilst the majority of their new business comes through the inbound marketing strategies we have in place for them, they also advertise a few times a month on the local radio station. These ads help attract people who may have been thinking about renovating their kitchen but haven't done anything about it. It prompts them to go to our clients' website to look for ideas and then they are exposed to our inbound marketing strategies.
