Keyword Tracker and Competitor Spy Platforms
Useful SEO Tools
Search Engine Optimisation is all about getting your website ranking for organic search terms; that is, search that you haven't directly paid for (eg. Adwords). When putting together an SEO Strategy, one of the first tasks is deciding what keywords (search terms) you want to target. This generally involves a keyword tool that shows how many searches a month (search volume) there are for a specific search term. In most cases it can be quite obvious what people are searching for to check the volume of, but as you go broader it can be harder deciding on terms. This is where a competitor spy tool comes in handy.
Competitor Spy
A competitor spy platform lets you put in any website domain and see what search terms it's indexed for and where they rank. This is a great way to identify search terms you may not have thought of to target.
The competitor spy also lets you see what your competitors are doing to get their website ranking for specific search terms. You can see what page is ranking and what content etc is on that page.
Hint:
You can also use a competitor spy tool to check your own website to easily see how your site has performed over a period of time in getting indexed and ranked in Google. The sceenshot below is one of our websites showing a great improvement in keywords indexed over a 4 year period (especially the last 2 years).
Keyword Tracker
Once you've decided on the search terms you want to target, you can choose the main ones with the most search volume and put them in a tool called a keyword tracker. This tool allows you to see how these keyword rank on a daily basis. Whilst it is normal for rankings to go up and down over a short period, this tool allows you to identify a keyword drop that may be caused by something fundamentally wrong with your website (eg. page is down etc).
There are other SEO tools that come in handy when doing search engine optimisation, but these 2 are the first 2 paid platforms that you should consider.
